8th Grade Buddies
Today we had 8th grade buddies! Mine was named Alex. She is 13 and goes to Head Royce School. Alex is really cool and has lots of friends. She is very attentive and intelligent.
Alex and I had lots of things in common. For example, we both like books. We also like fruit. On top of all that we like drawing. I hope I can see Alex again!!!

Flying Solo
Flying Solo is a really good book. What boring book would have a teacher out sick and a sub missing? This sixith grade class will take the pilot seat. But will this stunt plane crash?
Watch Out! This book is wonderful and heart warming yes, but this plane crew has soaring problems!

Book Talk BFG
Here is our first Book Talk for your listening enjoyment. We are still working out the sound engineering, so I apologize for microphone noise. Students had about three weeks to read their book (both out loud, together, and silently on their own) and take careful notes. This Book Talk is their first opportunity to get together (with the whole class watching) and discuss the book.

Poetry Slam!
Today we had our first poetry slam. Students were invited to recite a poem from memory (any poem). We had three fourth grade judges awarding scores of 1-10 based on volume, tone and pacing. Here are two winners!
1. Kayla Recites: Martin Luther King, October, 2009
2. Ruby Recites: Acrobat by Shel Silverstein, October 2009

Comments Comments Comments!
Room 15 Rocks is officially going crazy with comments right now! The Room 15 community is awesome! I have never seen so many different people writing so many wonderful, positive comments. If you haven’t written one yet, all you have to do is find something of interest on the web site and then click where it says “Leave a comment” or maybe “2 comments,” or it might just have a “Leave a reply” box at the bottom of a student’s page.
All I ask is that you use your real first name and that you keep it positive. Thank you so much to everyone who has gone on and already supported a member of our class by giving them positive feedback!
Now, just wait ’til we really start to put up work in our digital portfolios: writing, photography, art and spoken word!
